Welcome Roero to Milan

Milan Tuesday 14 May.
A territory of Piedmont that deserves the right attention.
A unique and historic resource, another winemaking reality that should make us proud of our country and our national heritage.
As is well known, Italy is the land of biodiversity. There are many native vines that grow in this large region of the northwest; nebbiolo, barbera, dolcetto, freisa, cortese, erbaluce, timorasso, just to name a few.
We find another extremely interesting grape with a high potential, Arneis. A vine closely linked to Roero.
And what better occasion to highlight its characteristics and quality than a presentation lunch of the Roero Days in Milan, held on Tuesday 14 May 2024?
The President of the Consorzio Tutela Roero Massimo Damonte told stories and anecdotes of this grape variety whose wines have enormous potential and a strong peculiarity.
The famous and refined Sadler restaurant offered us a menu paired with the wines presented.
We start with a Classic Method DOCG Blanc de Blanc from Arneis grapes, in purity. "John" it is a zero dosage of accentuated freshness and with mineral hints on the nose and in the mouth. A good 53 months on the lees, an unexpected 2018 vintage of intensity and elegance.
To accompany the delicious Fassone beef tartare with egg cream and black truffle, the first Roero Docg of lunch, San Michele 2022 by Deltetto, 100% Arneis. Fresh and well-structured wine thanks to the vinification and refinement phases between steel, cement, French oak barriques and bottle.
With the third wine, we travel over 10 years into the past thanks to the Roero DOCG Renesio 2013 by Malvirà.
Longevity and personality are its main characteristics, a constant “liasion” with the territory, sandy and extraordinarily mineral, a sensation that we find in this product refined exclusively in steel and bottle. The qualities of the wine and the Sardinian Fregola with saffron and fennel with green clams mutually enhance each other.

Excellence to finish, first and only red, a sensational (yes, maybe a little young…) Roero Docg Printi Monchiero Carbone, 2000 vintage, yes, you read that right. Two thousand!
Freshness, intensity and lasting persistence, noble tannin. Pure Nebbiolo, pure as its harmony and fragrance. Perfect pairing with Roast lamb chop with thyme and vegetable caponata and potatoes.
The new labels were also presented, which outline a strong representation of the territory, liveliness in the colors, intensity and candor.
Finally, an unmissable event on Monday 3 June 2024, Roero days 2024 with orover 60 producers, 500 wines, Palazzo Giureconsulti, Milan, from 11 to 19.

What struck me most of all was the desire to make these products and this territory known. Sometimes we let ourselves be tempted by the usual routine, the usual gestures, the usual wines, the usual territories, so as not to dare, for fear of abandoning our comfort zone, but let's be honest, it is when we do that that we discover the joy of novelty, of change and of unexpected satisfactions. Let's not be embarrassed by the choice, let's not be frightened by what is an immense fortune and Divine grace... thousands of native vines, hundreds of territories and tens of thousands of producers, small, medium and large. This is our infinite resource, this is what makes us unique and this is what we should always remember when we choose a glass of wine or better yet a bottle!
